Moving to Ojai, California

Moving to Ojai, California

with 20 Comments

I’m excited to announce that we will be moving to Ojai, California (pronounced “oh-high”) where we will open a studio/gallery for my artwork. Sarah and I (and Ian) found a perfect available retail space in the center of town during a trip to California last month and decided to pursue it. We feel like the time is right to take this step to further my art career and to allow Sarah to work with me full-time. We will be making the move in April.

Ojai is a beautiful town of about 8,000 people and is close in proximity to a number of great areas. It’s about 15 miles from the coastal city of Ventura (population 100,000+), about 80 miles from downtown Los Angeles and about 35 miles from Santa Barbara. The town is bordered by beautiful mountains, lush canyons and citrus groves and enjoys a pleasant climate year-round. (I plan to offer plein air painting workshops there as soon as possible so watch for more information to come.)

I will continue to keep you all informed of how we’re doing and I hope you will keep in touch as well. We are sad to be leaving all of our friends and connections in Colorado, but look forward to this next adventure with great anticipation!

Thanks, Stacey! I won’t be coming to RMPAP this year or the Crested Butte plein air show — I decided to focus on getting the gallery going in CA rather than traveling back to CO so soon. Maybe I’ll be in a position to participate again next year…. We will definitely miss seeing everyone!

    Hi Dan, Sarah and Ian,

It was a surprise to hear your move, but I wish you a good luck on your new Venture. I’ve known you since the old Copttonwood. With Sarah and little Ian at your side, you will be doing wonderfully. When I travel to California (my sister lives near Laguna Beach), I may stop by at your gallery in Ojai to say “Hi!”

    Love you all,

    Kazuko

    Hi Dan
You couldn’t have left at a worst time. I’m right on the cusp of becoming a level 3 painter, (all I have is two levels to go) and I was counting on you getting me there. Maybe a correspondence course in art. Are you up for that? On second thought my right thumb is still good so maybe I could hitch hike to Ojai and enable some plain air enhancement, which could be english for plein air painting. We should go surfing together. Do they allow old, fat guys to surf? We could paint the surf boards and make them real rad. They would sell for millions of mills. Seriously Dan I wish you the best including success in everything you do. Your Friend Tom

Thanks, Anita and Tom! I hope to reach that elusive Level 3 soon myself, Tom! You’re welcome to come out and paint with me in Ojai and show me your surfing skills — I don’t think I’ll be a Level 3 surfer anytime soon….
